Our Approach
Counselling in Glasgow

What can I expect from counselling?

At The Belonging Therapy, our approach is integrative, person-centred and trauma-informed. This means taking time to understand you as an individual, recognising that your experiences, circumstances and needs are unique to you. Our approach draws on a broad range of therapeutic ideas and techniques, including CBT, ACT, compassion-focused and mindfulness-based approaches. These are just some of the ways we may work together, depending on your individual needs and what feels helpful to you.

Everyone is different, and what feels helpful can change over time. Together, we can explore an approach that suits you, with the flexibility to adapt our sessions as we go. We also recognise that past experiences can affect how we feel and respond to situations today. Therapy moves at a pace that feels right for you, respecting your boundaries and giving you space to share what feels right.

Therapy is a collaborative process. Together, we can explore what is happening in your life, develop a deeper understanding of your experiences and consider what might help you move towards meaningful and sustainable change. Whether you are looking for counselling in Glasgow to help with a specific difficulty, struggling with your mental health, or simply feel that something needs to change, therapy can provide a confidential and supportive space to explore what is going on.

Starting therapy

Connection begins when we feel safe enough to be ourselves.

Beginning counselling can feel daunting, particularly if you have never spoken to a therapist before. We aim to make the process as straightforward and comfortable as possible.

Get In Touch

Get in touch

You can contact Belonging Therapy through the website enquiry form or by email. You can share as much or as little information as you feel comfortable with at this stage.

Free telephone consultation

I offer a free 20 minute telephone consultation before we begin counselling. This gives us an opportunity to briefly discuss what has brought you to therapy, answer any initial questions you may have and consider whether I might be the right therapist for you. There is no expectation that you need to have everything figured out before making contact.

Your first session

If we decide that working together feels like a good fit, we will arrange your first 50-minute therapy session. Before your first appointment, I will send you an introductory email containing my Therapy Agreement, Privacy Notice and Client Information Form so that you have an opportunity to read through the relevant information beforehand.

Understanding what brings you to therapy

The first session gives us time to explore your circumstances, what you are currently finding difficult and what you would like to get from counselling. We can also discuss any relevant risks, support needs or other factors that may be important for us to consider. Together, we will identify an initial focus for the work while allowing space for this to develop as therapy progresses.

Reviewing our work together

Therapy is not something we set once and leave unchanged. We will regularly review how things are progressing and consider whether our approach continues to meet your needs. As you develop a greater understanding of yourself and your circumstances, your goals may change too. Our work can adapt with you.

Walk-and-talk therapy may be available at selected locations across Glasgow and the Central Belt, including Lanarkshire, Falkirk and Stirling.
